Hazen

Just minutes from Lake Sakakawea (third largest man-made lake in the United States), Garrison Dam, the Knife River Indian Villages National Historic Site, NHS, and the energy sector, this vibrant town is located along the Lewis and Clark Trail and includes a well-rounded business district.Recreational opportunities are everywhere and Lake Sakakawea is a summer playground with lodging, boat docks and lake access at Hazen Bay Recreation Area.

Visitors are encouraged to try the ever so popular German-Russian delicacy called Fleieshkeulkla, a spoonful or bowl of Knoephla soup, sink your teeth into a slice of mouthwatering pizza from a variety of eating establishments.

Enjoy a walk downtown to the Sensational Sensory Garden located at the Paul Weiser Pocket Park where fresh mint and herbs are planted each summer, or venture to the Musical Play Park located in Heritage Park. Stop at the original train depot which is now home to the Hazen Public Library. Over four miles of paved walking and biking trails wind around the city. These scenic pathways connect Hazen’s parks, baseball diamonds, football field and golf course; making it a breeze for athletes and spectators to float from one event to the next. It’s not uncommon to spot wildlife along the footpath. There’s nothing quite as breathtaking as the early morning flight of pheasants freshly flushed from Antelope Creek!

Hazen is proud of its parks, walking and biking path, swimming pool, archery club, campgrounds, North Stars Arena, and the Hazen Golf Course. Visitors can enjoy fresh popcorn while watching the newest movie at Cinema Flix Movie Theatre. There is no shortage of java! Venture out to Groundation Coffee or the Urban Coffeehouse, both unique and lovely shops that will make you smile!

Every fall Hazen hosts a Harvestfest with a parade, inflatables, quilt show, carnival games, vendor blender, Fleischkuekla fundraiser, kite festival, food trucks, rides and rib class car show, to a free street dance, golf tournament, hay ride and beer garden. There is something for everyone.

We invite you to explore and connect in Hazen!
