The public is invited to a live wood carving demonstration at the North Dakota Heritage Center & State Museum in Bismarck on Monday, April 28, 9 a.m.-12 p.m.

Becky Barnes, a member of the Flickertail Woodcarvers since 2017, will demonstrate a relief carving of an acanthus leaf motif using long-handled chisels and a mallet. Barnes is currently an apprentice under master carver Izo Becic through the North Dakota Council on the Arts’ Folk and Traditional Arts Apprenticeship Program.

Stop by to see the carving techniques in action, better understand the tools, and learn more about this traditional art form.
