Coyote Catalog now available

Listing is for hunters and landowners experiencing depredation problems

The North Dakota Department of Agriculture and the North Dakota Game and Fish Department have reopened the Coyote Catalog to connect coyote hunters and trappers with landowners who want fewer coyotes in their areas. The Coyote Catalog is an online database similar to the one the Game and Fish Department uses to connect deer hunters with farmers and ranchers.

Coyote hunting in North Dakota is a popular and time-honored activity that combines skill, strategy, and a connection to the state's rugged landscapes. Coyotes, known for their intelligence and adaptability, thrive across North Dakota's prairies, farmland, and rolling hills, making them a challenging target for hunters. Many residents participate in coyote hunting to help manage predator populations, protecting livestock and game species. The hunt often involves calling techniques to mimic prey sounds or coyote vocalizations, luring the animals into range. Winter is a particularly active season for coyote hunting, as their coats are thick and their tracks are more visible in the snow. North Dakota’s open spaces and diverse terrains provide an ideal backdrop for this pursuit, which is both a practical wildlife management tool and a rewarding outdoor tradition. Hunters must adhere to state regulations, such as having the appropriate licenses and understanding land access rules, ensuring ethical and sustainable practices.
