Bagg Bonanza Farm

  • Bagg Bonanza Farm, Mooreton
    One of the last remaining bonanza farms in the U.S. The centerpiece of the 15-acre farm is a fully restored 21-bedroom main house. National Historical Landmark.

  • Fort Abercrombie State Historic Site, Abercrombie 
    First United States military post in North Dakota. The fort was used from 1858 to 1878 as the gateway to the Dakota frontier. The new interpretive center is open May-September.

  • Cold War Missile Sites (Oscar Zero and November 33) & Griggs County Museum, Cooperstown
    Opening July, 2009. These two sites will tell the story of the Cold War in North Dakota. They are the last remnants of the 321st Missile Wing, a cluster of intercontinental ballistic missile launch sites spread over a 6,500-square-mile area around the Grand Forks Air Force Base.

  • Rosebud Visitor Center, Valley City
    Features the "Rosebud," an antique railcar from the early railroad.  Also exhibits and interpretation for the Sheyenne River Valley National Scenic Byway, railroads and development of the valley. 

  • Gingras Trading Post, Walhalla 
    Learn about true pioneer life while visiting Gingras Trading Post near Walhalla. The 1840s buildings are the oldest standing building structures in North Dakota.

  • Pembina State Museum, Pembina
    100 million years of regional history in the permanent exhibit gallery. Also features temporary exhibit gallery, seven-story-tall viewing tower and tourist information.

  • Bonanzaville, USA, West Fargo
    Self-guided tour of 40 buildings includes authentic log cabins, school house, church, train depot and mansion. Automobile, tractor and airplane collections. Annual summer events.

    Fort Totten Historic Site

  • Fort Totten State Historic Site, Fort Totten
    Military post built in 1867 and used until 1890 when it became a boarding school for American Indian children.  It is the best-preserved frontier cavalry post west of the Mississippi River.

  • Frontier Village and World’s Largest Buffalo, Jamestown
    Original buildings from frontier villages have been moved to this site. The World’s Largest Buffalo monument is made from 60 tons of concrete and stands 26-feet-tall.

  • National Buffalo Museum, Jamestown
    Buffalo evolution displays, exhibits and view the live herd of buffalo and the rare albino buffalo, White Cloud, Dakota Miracle and Dakota Legend.

  • Prairie Village Museum, Rugby 
    Complete pioneer village with classic cars, fully stocked general store, guns, early train, American Indian and Eskimo artifacts and wildlife displays.

  • Lawrence Welk Birthplace, Strasburg
    Boyhood home of famous “Champagne Music Maker” band leader, Lawrence Welk. Sod house, summer kitchen, barn, buggy house, granary and blacksmith shop.

  • Scandinavian Heritage Center and Park, Minot 
    Outdoor museum features Norwegian house, stabbur, Danish windmill, Swedish Dala Horse, stave church, statues, picnic pavilion and visitor center, Finnish sauna, map plaza.

  • Railroad Museum of Minot
    Displays and artifacts trace the vital impact of the railroads on the communities and the way of life the railroads provided for many individuals.

  • Ward County Historical Society Museum Research Center and Archives, Minot 
    Pioneer village houses a collection of preserved and restored historic buildings, and thousands of artifacts.

    Lewis & Clark Interpretive Center

    • Knife River Indian Villages National Historic Site, Stanton
      Occupied for more than 11,000 years, visit remains of three Hidatsa villages, which were the home of Sakakawea. Site offers modern museum, visitor center and movie.


    • Fort Mandan Historic Site and Headwaters Visitor Center, Washburn
      Reconstructed winter home of the Lewis and Clark Expedition. Site includes visitor center, walking trails, picnic areas and cross country ski trails.


    • Lewis & Clark Interpretive Center, Washburn 
      Site has artifacts from every tribe the explorers encountered on their journey. The center features a rare complete set of the printed artworks of Swiss artist Karl Bodmer.


    • Double Ditch Indian Village State Historic Site, Bismarck
      Archaeological site of Mandan Indian village overlooking the Missouri River with remains of earthlodges, refuse mounds and the surrounding fortification ditches and interpretive panels.


    • Camp Hancock State Historic Site, Bismarck 
      Military post established initially as Camp Greeley in 1872 to provide protection for work gangs building the Northern Pacific Railroad. Log headquarters serves as an interpretive museum for artifacts and exhibits.


    • Buckstop Junction, Bismarck 
      Reconstructed village on 20 acres contains actual buildings from the late 1800s to the early 1930s. Turn-of-the-century atmosphere.


    • North Dakota State Capitol Tours, Bismarck
      The 19-story, Art Deco building was constructed in 1933 for $2 million and contains unique woods and materials from many states and countries.


    • North Dakota Heritage Center, Bismarck
      State’s largest museum has an outstanding collection of Plains Indian artifacts and interpretive exhibits that feature North Dakota’s varied American Indian, military and agricultural history and prehistory.


    • Former Governor’s Mansion State Historic Site, Bismarck
      This Victorian-style home served as a residence for 20 governors from 1893 to 1960. Exhibits feature the restoration process, architechtural style changes, and furniture used by several governors. Also features the restored carriage house.


    • Fort Abraham Lincoln State Park, Custer House and Cavalry Square, Mandan 
      Guided tour of Gen. George and Libbie Custer’s home. Self-guided tour of Fort Abraham Lincoln, home of the 7th Cavalry.


    • On-A-Slant Mandan Indian Village, Mandan
      400-year-old Mandan Indian Village, which thrived for 200 years. Interpretive tours of five reconstructed earthlodges and the village grounds.


    • Sitting Bull Burial State Historic Site, Fort Yates 
      The site marks the original burial ground of Hunkpapa Sioux leader Sitting Bull, who was killed on Dec. 15, 1890.


    • Assumption Abbey, Richardton 
      This Benedictine monastery built in 1909 features Romanesque structure, original paintings and 50 large stained glass windows.


    • Dunn County Historical Museum, Dunn Center
      Features authentic memorabilia depicting the heritage of the settlers in the Badlands and prairie areas of Dunn County.


    • Three Affiliated Tribes Museum, New Town 
      Museum serves as heritage center to display and preserve history and culture of the Mandan, Hidatsa and Arikara people.


    • Dakota Buttes Museum, Hettinger
      Features pioneer items, hand tools, clothing, farm equipment, antique vehicles, military items and church displays.  Also a visual tour of early Main Street and a recreated pioneer kitchen.


    • Ukrainian Cultural Institute, Dickinson 
      Ukrainian cultural exhibits, folk art, research library and cheese button factory.


    • Long X Trading Post Visitor Center, Watford City 
      Information center about the area’s cultural, geological, historical and geographic attractions.


    • Chateau de Mores and Visitor Center, Medora 
      This 26-room, two-story frame building was built in 1883 as the summer residence of the Marquis’ family. The chateau is now a historic house museum.


    • Maltese Cross Cabin, Medora 
      Built during the winter of 1883-84, the Maltese Cross Cabin was Theodore Roosevelts first home in Dakota Territory.


    • North Dakota Cowboy Hall of Fame, Medora 
      Displays show the history and heritage of the trail drivers, homesteaders and rodeo stars and the horse’s impact on life on the North Dakota plains.


    • Fort Buford State Historic Site, Williston
      Army fort critical for U.S. expansion. Sitting Bull surrendered here in 1881. Exhibits in original buildings and reconstructed barracks.


    • Pioneer Trails Regional Museum, Bowman 
      Offers cowboy, American Indian and military history, unique gardens, artifacts, fossils, dinosaurs, guided tours of fossil sites. Includes gift shop.


    • Unique Antique Car Museum, Marmarth
      Large number of restored antique automobiles and license plates from 1916 to the present, 1920s Buddy L toys, die-cast toys and cast iron and hand-carved toys.
