Focus on forts

Sunday was Day One of our North Dakota Adventure. Our family goal is to learn as much about frontier history as we can by visiting as many historical sites as possible in our five days, staying within a comfortable schedule.
Coming from Minnesota we started with Fort Abercrombie, near Abercrombie, ND. We discovered a fun little muesum and the new interpretive center and fort grounds. The block house gave a great view of the river and my daughters enjoyed how the staff mows the grass to indicate where fort buildings used to be.
Next stop was the Bagg Bonannza Farm near Mooreton, ND. This was the highlight of the day. Not only was it an informative tour of the huge Bagg House with lots of details about the family and lifestyle of the Bonannza Farm days, but there was fresh blueberry pie and rootbeer floats afterwards.
We took a scenice byway up to Fort Ransom, stopped for "the picture" because there really isn't much there and ended the day in Jamestown with a visit to White Cloud and Dakota Miracle, the two white buffalo that live next to the World's Largest Buffalo.
