10 Cool Places in Fargo  (3/11/2009)

I spent some time in Fargo during grad school. It is a very charming, chilled out city. For me, the coolest part of town lies downtown at the along Broadway, as well as the intersection of Broadway and Main Street. I've written an article about some of my favourite spots in Fargo, most of which can be found in near vicinity of downtown. I went to North Dakota around Labor Day this year. One of my frist stops in ND was at a tourist information stop. The lady there was so cute and so happy to see me. She said that I was her first customer all day. We went to Medora and stayed at Custer cottages. I thought that it was a clean place to stay, very homey, not deluxe, but fine to spend the night as a less expensive alternative to other options. There was a campground across the street with a country western band. They were very friendly...

I arrived in Bismarck on Nov. 6, just two hours before the start of what would become the biggest, early-November blizzard to hit North Dakota in the last 20 years, according to the locals. I traveled to the state to hunt whitetails, upland birds and waterfowl for six days with Coteau Lodge, based in Goodrich. The snow forced me to spend the night in Bismarck, since the interstates were shut down, but I spent a pleasant evening at the Expressway Inn and was able to get on the road to Goodrich by 10 a.m. Nov. 7. I should note here...
